MACV-SOG Vietnam Patch — Military Assistance Command, Vietnam – Studies and Observations Group Embroidered Patch
MACV-SOG — the most secret unit of the Vietnam War.
The Military Assistance Command, Vietnam – Studies and Observations Group (MACV-SOG) was one of the most highly classified special operations units in American military history. Despite its innocuous name suggesting a research organization, MACV-SOG conducted some of the most dangerous and secretive missions of the Vietnam War, including cross-border reconnaissance into Laos, Cambodia, and North Vietnam.
MACV-SOG operated from 1964 to 1972, conducting unconventional warfare, strategic reconnaissance, sabotage, personnel recovery, and psychological operations deep behind enemy lines. SOG teams — typically consisting of a handful of American Special Forces soldiers and indigenous personnel — were inserted into some of the most hostile terrain on Earth, operating for days or weeks surrounded by vastly superior enemy forces. MACV-SOG's operations remained classified for decades after the war, and many of the unit's missions are still not fully declassified. The courage required to volunteer for SOG missions, where the odds of survival were often measured in single digits, makes MACV-SOG one of the most legendary special operations units in American military history.
This patch honors MACV-SOG's classified warriors.
Perfect For: MACV-SOG veterans, Vietnam War special operations historians, Special Forces heritage enthusiasts, and classified unit patch collectors.
