Marine Air Control Squadron 8 operated within the Marine Air Command and Control System, providing air surveillance, identification, and intercept control through tactical radar systems. MACS-8 Marines operated the Tactical Air Operations Center, tracking aircraft across the battlespace and directing fighter intercepts against hostile aircraft. The squadron's mission was fundamental to air defense — without MACS Marines on the scopes, the air picture goes dark and the MAGTF loses its ability to control the skies.
