Futenma's Base Support Force
MABS-36 provided the essential base support for MAG-36 at MCAS Futenma and deployed locations throughout the Western Pacific. This officially licensed patch represents the Marines who ensured that the assault support helicopters and tiltrotors of MAG-36 always had the airfield infrastructure and services needed to fly.
Marine Air Base Squadron 36 served as the base operations element of MAG-36, providing airfield operations, crash rescue, aviation fuels, motor transport, communications, and base defense. The squadron deployed to Vietnam in 1965 alongside MAG-36 and supported operations from Ky Ha, Phu Bai, and other locations throughout I Corps. After redeployment to MCAS Futenma, Okinawa, MABS-36 continued to support MAG-36's diverse fleet of rotary wing and tiltrotor aircraft through decades of Pacific operations and deployments.
