Marine Air Base Squadron 13 served alongside MAG-13 from the Pacific campaigns of World War II through decades of operations at MCAS Yuma, Arizona. The squadron's Marines specialized in the unique challenges of operating Marine aviation from austere environments — from jungle airstrips to desert expeditionary airfields. MABS-13 provided aircraft rescue and firefighting, aviation fuels distribution, motor transport, communications, and base defense, ensuring that MAG-13's attack aircraft could launch their missions regardless of conditions.
