The Legal Services Support Team (LSST) at Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni, Japan, provides comprehensive legal services to the Marines, Sailors, and their families stationed at one of the Marine Corps' most important forward-deployed installations in the Western Pacific. LSST Iwakuni falls under the broader Legal Services Support organization and delivers the full range of military legal support including legal assistance, military justice (courts-martial and non-judicial punishment), claims, and operational law advice to commanders.
MCAS Iwakuni is home to Marine Aircraft Group 12 (MAG-12) and the squadrons of the 1st Marine Aircraft Wing that operate F-35B Lightning II, F/A-18 Hornet, EA-18G Growler, and other aircraft as part of the forward-deployed air combat element in Japan. The legal team at Iwakuni supports a large and diverse military community that faces unique legal challenges associated with overseas service — Status of Forces Agreement (SOFA) issues, host nation laws, international incident management, and the complex intersection of U.S. military law and Japanese civil and criminal jurisdiction.
