Neptune's Raiders conducted anti-submarine warfare, combat search and rescue, and utility operations as part of carrier air wings and shore-based helicopter detachments. The raider identity reflected the squadron's aggressive approach to the ASW mission — actively hunting and attacking submarine contacts rather than passively waiting for threats to appear.
