Marine Light Attack Helicopter Squadron 369 (HMLA-369) "Gunfighters" deployed a skid detachment with the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (31st MEU) for the 20.1 deployment cycle, and this patch commemorates that forward-deployed service. The 31st MEU is America's only continuously forward-deployed MEU, operating from Okinawa, Japan, and this patch represents HMLA-369's contribution to the MEU's aviation combat element.
As the skid DET with the 31st MEU, HMLA-369 Gunfighters crews flew AH-1Z Vipers and UH-1Y Venoms from the deck of an amphibious assault ship across the Indo-Pacific theater. The 20.1 deployment cycle placed Gunfighter crews at the ready for any real-world contingency — from humanitarian assistance and disaster relief to combat operations and non-combatant evacuation. The Viper's devastating firepower and the Venom's versatility make the skid DET the most lethal and flexible element of the MEU's rotary-wing package, providing close air support, armed reconnaissance, and command and control capabilities on demand.
