From the North Sea to the Baltic, from the Horn of Africa to the Mediterranean, the German Seebataillon carries on a tradition of naval infantry that stretches back to the Prussian Seebataillone of the 19th century. This patch represents Germany's modern maritime infantry force — a specialized unit within the Deutsche Marine trained for boarding operations, force protection, and expeditionary missions in support of NATO and international operations.

Germany's naval infantry tradition dates to 1852 with the formation of the first Prussian Seebataillon, which served in colonial campaigns across Africa, Asia, and the Pacific. The original Seebataillon was dissolved after World War I, and naval infantry forces were not reconstituted until the Cold War era.
