Marine Forces Atlantic represents the Marine Corps' component command for the Atlantic theater — the headquarters responsible for providing trained and ready Marine forces to support operations across the Atlantic basin. This patch honors the Marines and commands that have maintained readiness and combat capability for decades under the Atlantic banner.
Marine Forces Atlantic (MARFORLANT) served as the Marine Corps component command for United States Atlantic Command, responsible for organizing, training, and equipping Marine forces for deployment in the Atlantic and European theaters. The command oversaw the readiness of II Marine Expeditionary Force and its subordinate units, ensuring that Marine forces on the East Coast were prepared for rapid deployment worldwide. In December 2005, MARFORLANT was renamed Marine Corps Forces Command (MARFORCOM), reflecting the broader transformation of American military command structure. The legacy of MARFOR Atlantic lives on in the East Coast Marines who continue to maintain the readiness and combat capability that defined the command.
