USS Belleau Wood LHA-3 — Embroidered Patch
Devil Dogs' Ship
USS Belleau Wood (LHA-3) carried the name of the legendary World War I battle where Marines earned the nickname "Devil Dogs." This patch represents the sailors and Marines who served aboard one of the most aptly named warships in Naval history.
USS Belleau Wood (LHA-3) was a Tarawa-class amphibious assault ship commissioned in 1978. Named after the Battle of Belleau Wood in 1918, where Marines fought with such ferocity that the Germans called them "Teufel Hunden" (Devil Dogs), the ship deployed Marine Expeditionary Units worldwide. Belleau Wood was the last U.S. warship to leave Subic Bay, Philippines, in 1992. The ship was decommissioned in 2001.
Perfect For:
USS Belleau Wood veterans, Tarawa-class LHA sailors, MEU Marines, and Devil Dog heritage collectors.
