The Kuwait Liberation Medal (Saudi Arabia) was awarded by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to coalition forces who participated in Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm between January 17, 1991, and February 28, 1991. The medal was authorized for acceptance and wear by American service members, recognizing their contribution to the defense of Saudi Arabia and the liberation of Kuwait from Iraqi occupation. The coalition that assembled in the Gulf included forces from 35 nations, and the Saudi medal represents the gratitude of one of the key coalition partners. For the service members who received it, the medal is a reminder that they were part of a truly international effort to restore sovereignty to a nation that had been brutally occupied.
