USMC 9th Marine Amphibious Brigade MAB Patch — Embroidered Patch
First Boots on the Beach at Da Nang
When America needed Marines in Vietnam, the 9th MAB answered the call. This patch represents the unit that made history on March 8, 1965, when its Marines came ashore at Red Beach, Da Nang — the first conventional U.S. ground combat troops to enter the Vietnam War. If you served with the 9th MAB or honor the legacy of those who went in first, this patch carries that weight.
Activated following the Gulf of Tonkin Incident in August 1964 under Medal of Honor recipient Brigadier General Raymond G. Davis, the 9th Marine Expeditionary Brigade was built around the 9th Marine Regiment and nearly 6,000 men. When the Viet Cong attacked Pleiku in February 1965, President Johnson ordered the brigade to Da Nang. Redesignated as the 9th Marine Amphibious Brigade in 1966, the unit served as the Special Landing Force of the Seventh Fleet, conducting amphibious operations along the Vietnamese coast including Operations Deckhouse, Beaver Cage, and Beacon Star. The brigade's twin SLF concept — Alpha and Bravo — became a model for amphibious strike operations throughout the war.
Perfect For:
Vietnam-era Marines, veterans of the 9th MAB or 9th Marines, military historians studying the Vietnam War, amphibious warfare enthusiasts, patch collectors focused on Vietnam-era units, and anyone who respects the Marines who went in first.
They didn't wait for an invitation — they hit the beach and changed history.
