Marine Corps MOS 6046 Aviation Maintenance Data Specialists are the information backbone of every aviation maintenance squadron. They maintain electronic aeronautical records within a computerized maintenance management system, compile data from maintenance work orders and aircraft diagnostic systems, and produce the readiness reports that maintenance supervisors and logisticians rely on to keep aircraft mission capable. Their responsibilities extend to tracking components with service life limits, screening technical directives for applicability to assigned aircraft, reporting flight loads and launch and landing data, and managing the full lifecycle of aeronautical logbooks and records. Initial formal training takes place at the Aviation Maintenance Administration Course at Naval Air Station Meridian, Mississippi, with advanced schooling at the Optimized Naval Aviation Logistic Management Information System School in Pensacola, Florida, where specialists develop database management skills and statistical process control methods in support of aviation readiness reporting. Without the 6046 community, no aircraft moves, no part transfers, and no maintenance schedule holds together. This patch honors the Marines who work behind the scenes to make every sortie possible.
