5th Reconnaissance Battalion carries the reconnaissance community's demanding standards into the Marine Corps Reserve, maintaining combat-ready recon Marines who stand prepared to augment active-duty forces whenever the nation needs them.
As part of the 4th Marine Division, Marine Forces Reserve, 5th Recon Battalion trains reserve reconnaissance Marines to the same rigorous standards as their active-duty counterparts. The battalion's Marines are qualified in amphibious reconnaissance, ground reconnaissance, and the full range of tactical intelligence-gathering techniques. When reserve units have been called to active duty for Desert Storm, Iraq, and Afghanistan, 5th Recon Marines have deployed and performed alongside active component reconnaissance battalions. The battalion demonstrates that the reserve reconnaissance community maintains the physical fitness, tactical proficiency, and warrior ethos that define the recon brotherhood.
