Officially Licensed USMC 3D LAAD Feel the Sting Patch — 3rd Low Altitude Air Defense Battalion Embroidered Patch
Feel the Sting — 3rd LAAD Battalion, the Marine Corps' ground-based air defense specialists, swatting hostile aircraft and drones out of the sky before they reach the MAGTF.
3rd Low Altitude Air Defense (LAAD) Battalion is a Marine Corps ground-based air defense unit responsible for protecting the Marine Air-Ground Task Force (MAGTF) from low-altitude air threats including enemy aircraft, helicopters, cruise missiles, and unmanned aerial systems (UAS). The battalion's motto — "Feel the Sting" — is a direct warning to any airborne threat that ventures into the MAGTF's airspace: the LAAD Marines will make you pay.
3rd LAAD Battalion operates the FIM-92 Stinger man-portable air defense system (MANPADS), a shoulder-fired, heat-seeking missile that has proven devastatingly effective against low-altitude air threats since its introduction in the 1980s. LAAD Marines are trained to identify, track, and engage hostile aircraft at ranges of up to approximately 5 miles, providing a critical layer of air defense that fills the gap between the MAGTF's own air superiority fighters and the unit-level air defense provided by small arms. In an era of increasing drone threats, the LAAD mission has become more important than ever.
LAAD Marines deploy with the ground combat element, setting up firing positions around key terrain, command posts, and logistics nodes to provide an umbrella of air defense coverage. Their skills in aircraft identification, engagement procedures, and rules of engagement make them one of the most specialized communities in the Marine Corps infantry world.
Perfect For: 3rd LAAD Battalion Marines and veterans, LAAD community members across the Marine Corps, Stinger missile operators, Marine air defense specialists, and ground-based air defense patch collectors.
3rd LAAD Battalion — Feel the Sting — because if it flies low and it's not friendly, the LAAD Marines will burn it down.
