USMC 2nd ANGLICO FMF Thunder From the Sea Patch — USMC Embroidered Patch
Thunder From the Sea — 2nd Air Naval Gunfire Liaison Company
When the 82nd Airborne needed naval gunfire in Grenada, 2nd ANGLICO was there. When allied forces needed air support in Beirut, 2nd ANGLICO Marines spotted targets from A-6 Intruders and directed 16-inch rounds from the USS New Jersey. This patch carries the motto and identity of one of the most operationally active ANGLICO companies in Marine Corps history.
2nd ANGLICO, based at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, supported II Marine Expeditionary Force and built its reputation on relentless operational tempo. During the 1980s, under LtCol J.M. Wills and LtGen A.M. Gray — who would become Commandant — the unit refocused on core fire support skills, conducting live naval gunfire training with the USS Iowa and mass tactical exercises with the Army's 82nd Airborne Division. Between June 1982 and March 1984 alone, the company supported 35 operations with U.S. Army and allied forces worldwide, from arctic Norway to peacekeeping in Beirut, Lebanon. 2nd ANGLICO deployed in support of the 18th Airborne Corps during the invasion of Grenada in 1983 and supported coalition forces during Desert Storm. Deactivated in September 1998, the unit was reactivated in 2003 and has since supported operations in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Perfect For: 2nd ANGLICO veterans, fire support coordinators, II MEF personnel, Beirut and Grenada veterans, and anyone who knows what it means to bring thunder from the sea.
Thunder from the sea — 2nd ANGLICO delivered it.
