The 281st Assault Helicopter Company, known as the "Wolf Pack," was one of the most unique and secretive Army aviation units of the Vietnam War. Operating UH-1 Hueys, the 281st provided direct aviation support to special operations forces, including the Military Assistance Command, Vietnam — Studies and Observations Group (MACV-SOG). Their missions included inserting and extracting reconnaissance teams deep behind enemy lines in some of the most heavily defended territory in Southeast Asia. The Wolf Pack flew where other units wouldn't — into Laos, Cambodia, and the most dangerous corners of Vietnam — earning a reputation for extraordinary courage and devastating losses.
