The 247th Medical Detachment — another Dust Off unit that flew into the fire to bring the wounded home.
The 247th Medical Detachment (Helicopter Ambulance) conducted medevac operations during the Vietnam War, flying UH-1 Hueys into hostile landing zones to evacuate wounded soldiers. Dust Off crews like the 247th operated under some of the most dangerous conditions in the war — red crosses on their aircraft and no weapons, flying directly into the fight to save lives.
