1st Tank Battalion M-60 Patch --test - United States Marine Corps 1st Tank Battalion M-60 Patton Armor Heritage Patch, 1st Marine Division.
Steel on Target - the motto and the mission of the Marines who kept the Corps' heaviest punch rolling from the Pacific to the Persian Gulf.
Activated on 1 November 1941, the 1st Tank Battalion built its reputation across eight decades of Marine Corps armor history. The battalion earned its bones in the Pacific during World War II, fighting at Guadalcanal, Tarawa, Saipan, and Iwo Jima before carrying that armored legacy into Korea at Inchon and the Chosin Reservoir. The M-60 Patton became the defining platform of the battalion's Cold War identity, a 105mm main gun tank that the Marine Corps upgraded and kept in service long after the Army transitioned to the M1 Abrams. That decision paid off in 1991, when Marine M-60A1s fitted with explosive reactive armor rolled into Kuwait during Operation Desert Storm and destroyed Iraqi armored formations in what became the largest tank battle in Marine Corps history. The 1st Tank Battalion later deployed in support of Operations Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom before its deactivation in May 2021 under the Force Design 2030 initiative. This patch connects directly to the M-60 era of that lineage, honoring the crews, loaders, gunners, and commanders who kept steel on target through the Cold War and beyond.
Perfect for 1st Tank Battalion veterans, M-60 Patton crew members, 1st Marine Division collectors, armor community alumni, Desert Storm commemorators, Marine Corps historians, shadow box builders, challenge coin and patch board displays, reunion gifts, and family members who want a specific piece tied to the battalion's Cold War and combat armor heritage rather than a generic tank insignia.
Eight decades of Marine armor history, pressed into one patch worth keeping.
