1st Stinger Battery Death From Below — USMC Embroidered Patch
Death From Below — Pacific Air Defense
1st Stinger Battery was the only Marine ground-based air defense unit within the III Marine Expeditionary Force, standing guard over Marine aviation assets in the Western Pacific with shoulder-launched Stinger missiles and unwavering readiness. This patch represents the air defense warriors of the Pacific.
1st Stinger Battery was activated on 1 July 1982 at MCAS Futenma as 1st Forward Area Air Defense Battery, initially employing the Redeye missile before fielding the Stinger system. The unit was redesignated as 1st Low Altitude Air Defense Battalion in 1986, then reduced to 1st Stinger Battery in 1993 with two firing platoons. The battery fielded the Avenger Weapon System in 1996, increasing its firepower and targeting capabilities. After being decommissioned in 2007, the unit was reactivated as 1st LAAD Battalion in August 2023, now fielding the cutting-edge Marine Air Defense Integrated System (MADIS) at MCB Hawaii.
Perfect For:
1st Stinger Battery/1st LAAD veterans, III MEF air defense Marines, Pacific-based LAAD gunners, and Marine air defense heritage collectors.
