Casualty evacuation within I MEF has evolved into one of the most sophisticated combat medical systems in the world. The CASEVAC mission involves ground and air assets working together to move wounded Marines from the battlefield to increasingly capable levels of medical care as quickly as possible. In Iraq and Afghanistan, I MEF refined the CASEVAC system to unprecedented levels of speed and effectiveness, with helicopter crews launching within minutes of a casualty report and surgical teams standing ready at forward operating bases. The result was the highest combat survival rate in the history of warfare — a testament to the dedication of every Marine, sailor, soldier, and airman involved in the CASEVAC chain.
