The 1st Marine Expeditionary Force is the Marine Corps' premier west coast fighting formation — the air-ground team that combines the 1st Marine Division, 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing, and 1st Marine Logistics Group into a single, integrated combat force capable of sustained operations anywhere in the world.

I MEF is headquartered at Camp Pendleton, California, and serves as the Marine Corps' largest expeditionary force on the West Coast. The command brings together ground combat, aviation, and logistics elements into the Marine Air-Ground Task Force that has been the Marine Corps' signature organizational concept since World War II. I MEF has deployed to every major operation in recent decades, including Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm, Iraqi Freedom, and Enduring Freedom. The 1st MEF Air Ground Team patch represents the integrated nature of the force — the recognition that Marine combat power comes from the seamless combination of ground maneuver, air support, and logistics sustainment.
