Officially Licensed USMC 1st MAW Vietnam Service Patch — Embroidered Patch
First Wing in the Fight
The 1st Marine Aircraft Wing wrote the book on combat aviation in Vietnam. This service patch honors every Marine who served under the 1st MAW banner during the war — the pilots, aircrew, maintainers, controllers, and support personnel who kept Marine air power flying over I Corps from 1965 through the final withdrawal. If your service in Vietnam was under the wing of the 1st MAW, this patch is your proof of presence.
The 1st Marine Aircraft Wing deployed to Vietnam as the aviation combat element of III Marine Amphibious Force, operating from bases including Da Nang, Marble Mountain, Chu Lai, and Phu Bai. At its peak, 1st MAW controlled hundreds of aircraft across multiple Marine Aircraft Groups, flying everything from UH-34 Seahorses and CH-46 Sea Knights to F-4 Phantoms, A-4 Skyhawks, and OV-10 Broncos. The wing's squadrons flew close air support for Marines in the field, conducted helicopter assault operations, performed medevac extractions under fire, and maintained aerial reconnaissance over some of the most contested terrain in Southeast Asia. The 1st MAW's presence in Vietnam spanned the entire American involvement and represents one of the most sustained combat aviation campaigns in Marine Corps history.
Perfect For:
Vietnam-era 1st MAW veterans, Marine aviation personnel who served in-country, Vietnam War historians, military patch collectors, squadron reunion attendees, and families honoring Vietnam service
