US Army 189th Caretaker Maintenance – Vietnam Patch
The Caretaker kept the birds flying over the Central Highlands.
The Maintenance Platoon of the 189th Assault Helicopter Company adopted the call sign "Caretaker" and a patch depicting a powerful condor standing vigil over a UH-1H Huey — a fitting symbol for the maintainers who kept the company's helicopters mission-ready in the demanding conditions of Vietnam. Based at Camp Holloway in Pleiku and assigned to the 52nd Combat Aviation Battalion, the 189th AHC flew assault and support missions across the Central Highlands. Without the Caretaker maintenance crews working around the clock in tropical heat, monsoon rains, and the constant threat of enemy fire, the 189th's Hueys would never have left the ground. This patch honors the unsung heroes who turned wrenches so others could fly.
Perfect For:
189th AHC veterans and their families, Army helicopter maintenance personnel, Vietnam-era aviation veterans, UH-1 Huey enthusiasts, and collectors preserving the legacy of Army aviation in Vietnam.
For the maintainers who kept the mission alive.
