Officially Licensed USMC VMA-214 Blacksheep Patch — Marine Attack Squadron Black Sheep Embroidered Patch
The Black Sheep — Pappy Boyington's legendary squadron, the most famous in Marine Corps history.
VMA-214 "Black Sheep" carries the most recognized name in Marine Corps aviation, made legendary by Colonel Gregory "Pappy" Boyington, who commanded VMF-214 during World War II. Boyington assembled a group of replacement pilots and misfits into one of the most effective fighter squadrons in the Pacific, shooting down or destroying 97 enemy aircraft in their first combat tour. Boyington himself became the top Marine ace of the war with 28 confirmed kills and received the Medal of Honor. Shot down and captured by the Japanese, he survived captivity and returned to a hero's welcome. The squadron's exploits were later dramatized in the television series "Baa Baa Black Sheep."
