**VMX-22 Argonauts Sticker — Marine Tiltrotor Operational Test and Evaluation Squadron Vinyl Sticker**

The Argonauts — the squadron that proved the Osprey was ready for the fleet. Every tiltrotor mission flown in combat traces back to the work VMX-22 did first.

Marine Tiltrotor Operational Test and Evaluation Squadron Twenty-Two (VMX-22), the "Argonauts," was activated on August 28, 2003, at MCAS New River, North Carolina, as a joint USMC/USAF operational test and evaluation squadron under the Commander, Operational Test and Evaluation Force (COMOPTEVFOR). VMX-22's sole mission was to conduct rigorous operational testing of the revolutionary MV-22 Osprey tiltrotor — a platform that was neither fixed-wing nor rotary-wing and required an entirely new approach to testing, tactics, and maintenance. The Argonauts tested the Osprey aboard USS Wasp, USS Bataan, and USS America, validating shipboard operations, assault support capabilities, and combat employment procedures. In May 2016, VMX-22 was redesignated as VMX-1 as its mission expanded beyond tiltrotor platforms to encompass all Marine aviation systems.
