VMM-161, the Greyhawks, operates MV-22B Ospreys from MCAS Miramar under MAG-16 and the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing. The squadron traces its lineage to HMM-161, one of the first Marine helicopter squadrons to fly combat missions in Vietnam. The Banshee variant patch captures the squadron's warrior spirit — the howling battle cry that precedes the Greyhawks into the fight.
