The CH-46 "Phrogs Phorever" sticker is a tribute to the Boeing Vertol CH-46 Sea Knight — affectionately known as the "Phrog" — the tandem-rotor medium-lift helicopter that served as the backbone of Marine Corps assault support from 1964 until its retirement in 2015. For over four decades, the Phrog carried Marines into combat, evacuated the wounded, delivered supplies to remote outposts, and performed every mission that the Marine Air-Ground Task Force demanded of it. No other helicopter has served the Marine Corps longer or more faithfully.
The CH-46 saw combat in Vietnam, where Phrog crews flew thousands of assault transport, resupply, and medevac missions into some of the war's most contested landing zones. The Sea Knight continued to serve through Desert Storm, Somalia, Iraq, and Afghanistan, carrying Marines into the fight long after many expected it to be replaced. When the last CH-46 was finally retired in favor of the MV-22 Osprey, it marked the end of an era that spanned the careers of multiple generations of Marine aviators. "Phrogs Phorever" is the community's way of saying the Phrog may be gone, but it will never be forgotten.
