The Bell UH-1Y Venom is the Marine Corps' modern utility helicopter, the latest evolution of the legendary UH-1 "Huey" that has been synonymous with military helicopter aviation since the Vietnam War. The "Yankee Doodle" patch celebrates the UH-1Y's distinctly American heritage — from its origins as the iconic Vietnam-era Huey to its current role as the Marine Corps' primary utility, command and control, and light attack helicopter platform.
The UH-1Y Venom represents a complete modernization of the Huey platform, featuring a four-bladed composite main rotor, twin General Electric T700-GE-401C engines, a glass cockpit with integrated avionics, and the ability to carry a wide range of weapons including the GAU-21 .50-caliber machine gun, M240 7.62mm machine guns, GAU-17 minigun, and 2.75-inch rocket pods. Despite its technological transformation, the UH-1Y retains the Huey's fundamental characteristics — versatility, reliability, and the ability to operate in the tightest landing zones and most austere conditions.
