HMX-1 Presidential Seal Sticker

Marine Helicopter Squadron One (HMX-1), Headquarters Marine Corps Aviation

Marine Helicopter Squadron One (HMX-1), the "Nighthawks," holds the most prestigious aviation assignment in the United States military—providing helicopter transportation for the President and Vice President of the United States, heads of state, and other senior government officials. Established on 1 December 1947 at Marine Corps Base Quantico, Virginia, HMX-1 was originally activated as an experimental unit tasked with testing and evaluating military helicopters when rotary-wing flight was still in its infancy.

In 1957, HMX-1 earned its most celebrated mission when President Dwight D. Eisenhower—urgently needed back at the White House from vacation—was transported by helicopter in what would have been a two-hour motorcade trip reduced to a seven-minute flight. From that moment, HMX-1 became synonymous with "Marine One," the call sign used whenever the President is aboard a Marine helicopter. In 1976, the Marine Corps was assigned sole responsibility for presidential helicopter transport, a mission shared with the Army since 1957. More than 800 Marines supervise the operation of the Marine One fleet, and every member must pass a Yankee White background check.

This Presidential Seal sticker represents the "Whiteside" Executive Flight Detachment, which conducts all presidential and VIP flights under the direction of the White House Military Office. HMX-1's current fleet includes the VH-3D Sea King, VH-60N White Hawk, the new VH-92A Patriot—which became operational in 2024 and made its inaugural Marine One flight on 19 August 2024—and the MV-22B Osprey for support operations. Headquartered at Marine Corps Air Facility Quantico with detachments at Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling, HMX-1 is most often seen in action on the South Lawn of the White House.

Perfect For: HMX-1 Nighthawk members and veterans, Marine One pilots and crew, presidential aviation enthusiasts, VH-92A and VH-3D admirers, White House Military Office personnel, and collectors of presidential memorabilia.

The most trusted mission in military aviation—the Nighthawks of HMX-1, carrying the Commander in Chief with precision, security, and the pride of the United States Marine Corps.
