HMH-466 Wolfpack Cinco De Mayo PVC Glow Patch

Marine Heavy Helicopter Squadron 466 (HMH-466), 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing

Marine Heavy Helicopter Squadron 466 (HMH-466), the "Wolfpack," was commissioned on 30 November 1984 as the Marine Corps' third CH-53E Super Stallion squadron under Marine Aircraft Group 16 at what was then MCAS Tustin, California. By December 1984, the squadron was 180 Marines strong and conducted its first operational flight on 19 December 1984. In its first seven months, the Wolfpack flew 1,100 hours, carried 1,000 passengers, and lifted 175,000 pounds of cargo.

When Iraq invaded Kuwait in August 1990, HMH-466 became the first CH-53E squadron to deploy to Saudi Arabia. During Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm, the Wolfpack recovered downed aircraft, conducted the first Night Vision Goggle troop insertion in Marine Corps history, and provided heavy-lift support from port facilities to staging areas—returning to MCAS Tustin having sustained no losses of personnel or aircraft. In November 1993, the squadron attained 25,000 flight hours, becoming the only CH-53E squadron to reach that milestone Class A mishap-free, and by 29 May 1995 became the first Marine Corps CH-53E squadron to exceed 30,000 mishap-free flight hours.

The Wolfpack has participated in fourteen Marine Expeditionary Unit deployments, supported Operation Restore Hope in Somalia (1992–1993), and deployed multiple times to Iraq and Afghanistan. In January 2010, HMH-466 took over heavy-lift combat operations at Camp Bastion, Afghanistan, where the combined "HMH-America" unit supported Operation Moshtarak—the largest helicopter-borne raid of Operation Enduring Freedom. By November 2010, the squadron surpassed 80,000 flight hours without a Class A mishap. Today, the Wolfpack continues to serve under MAG-16 at MCAS Miramar, having earned the Presidential Unit Citation, the Keith B. McCutcheon Heavy Lift Squadron of the Year Award three times, and eleven Chief of Naval Operations Aviation Safety Awards.

Perfect For: HMH-466 Wolfpack members and veterans, CH-53E Super Stallion community members, MAG-16 and 3rd MAW personnel, MCAS Miramar Marines, and Marine heavy helicopter aviation enthusiasts.

The Wolfpack—first CH-53E squadron to Desert Storm, first to 30,000 mishap-free hours, and always first to answer the call for Marine Corps heavy lift.
