When HMH-462 sends a detachment to Japan, they bring the heavy-lift capability that keeps III MEF's operations running. This patch marks a specific Japan deployment rotation of the Heavy Haulers, one of the Marine Corps' premier heavy helicopter squadrons.
HMH-462 operates the CH-53E Super Stallion, the Marine Corps' heavy-lift helicopter capable of carrying 16 tons of external cargo or 55 combat-loaded Marines. The Heavy Haulers provide the assault support and logistics capability that allows Marine Air-Ground Task Forces to operate in austere environments where runways and roads don't exist. Japan detachments place the squadron's massive helicopters forward in the Western Pacific, where they support III MEF operations, bilateral training exercises with the Japanese Self-Defense Forces, and maintain readiness for any Indo-Pacific contingency. The Det 25.2 designation marks a specific rotation, making this patch a time-stamped piece of squadron history.
