HMR-361 — the transport squadron that became the Flying Tigers.
HMR-361 was the helicopter transport squadron designation that would eventually evolve through multiple redesignations into today's HMH-361 "Flying Tigers." In the HMR era, the squadron operated early Marine transport helicopters including the HRS Chickasaw and CH-34 Choctaw, developing the tactics and techniques for helicopter-borne assault that the Marine Corps would use for decades. This patch preserves the squadron's transport-era identity.
