UH-34D HUS Patch — USMC Marine Helicopter Utility Squadron Legacy Embroidered Patch
The Dog — the Sikorsky UH-34D that carried Marine Corps helicopter aviation through its formative years and into Vietnam.
The Sikorsky UH-34D Seahorse (originally designated HUS-1) was the Marine Corps' primary assault helicopter before the CH-46 Sea Knight. Known as "the Dog" by the Marines who flew and maintained it, the UH-34D saw its heaviest combat use in Vietnam, where Marine HMM squadrons flew the Seahorse into contested landing zones across I Corps from 1962 until the CH-46 replaced it in the late 1960s. The UH-34D was a piston-engine helicopter in a rapidly evolving turbine world, and the Marines who flew it did so with skill, courage, and the knowledge that the aircraft was being pushed to its limits in the tropical heat of Southeast Asia.
Perfect For:
UH-34D Seahorse veterans, Marine HMM squadron Vietnam-era aviators, early Marine helicopter community members, piston-era helicopter enthusiasts, and USMC legacy aircraft patch collectors.
The Dog. UH-34D. Where Marine helicopter aviation was forged.
