Official HMM-164 Viet Nam's Flying Death Patch — USMC Marine Medium Helicopter Squadron Vietnam War Embroidered Patch
"Flying Death" — HMM-164's Vietnam-era identity was as fierce as the missions they flew.
HMM-164 earned the "Flying Death" moniker during their Vietnam War deployments, where CH-46 Sea Knight crews flew into some of the most heavily defended landing zones in I Corps. The first CH-46 Sea Knights arrived in Vietnam with HMM-164 in March 1966 at Marble Mountain Air Facility near Da Nang. The squadron flew thousands of assault support, troop lift, and medevac missions over three and a half years of combat operations. The "Flying Death" name reflected both the danger of the missions and the lethal capability that Marine helicopter forces brought to the battlefield.
Perfect For:
HMM-164 Vietnam veterans, CH-46 Sea Knight Vietnam combat crews, Marine medium helicopter war veterans, and USMC Vietnam War squadron patch collectors.
