HMM-163 "Ridge Runners" was a Marine medium helicopter squadron that earned its nickname flying CH-46 Sea Knights through the mountainous terrain of I Corps, Vietnam. The Ridge Runners operated in some of the most challenging geography of the war, flying assault support and medevac missions through valleys, ridgelines, and mountain passes where enemy fire could come from above. HMM-163 served across multiple deployments and continued to operate as one of the Corps' medium helicopter squadrons through the Cold War era.
