HMM-161 "Greyhawks" deployed to Vietnam, where CH-46 Sea Knight crews flew thousands of assault support, troop transport, medevac, and resupply missions across I Corps. Vietnam was the defining combat experience for an entire generation of Marine helicopter aviators, and HMM-161 was in the thick of it from the beginning. This Vietnam-era patch preserves the Greyhawks' identity as it appeared during the war, a tribute to the Marines who flew into hot LZs and brought their brothers home.
