Marine Light Attack Helicopter Squadron 369 (HMLA-369) "Gunfighters" deployed a detachment with the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit (26th MEU), and this "Insano" patch commemorates that deployment with the over-the-top energy that defines the skid community. The Insano theme reflects the intense, high-tempo nature of MEU skid detachment operations — where a small team of Cobra and Huey crews operates from the confined deck of an amphibious assault ship, flying combat missions, training exercises, and real-world responses around the clock.
When HMLA-369 sends a detachment with a MEU, those Gunfighter crews become the sharp edge of the MEU's aviation combat element. Flying AH-1Z Vipers and UH-1Y Venoms off pitching ship decks in all weather conditions, the skid DET provides close air support, armed reconnaissance, armed escort, and forward air control capabilities that are essential to every MEU mission. The "Insano" moniker captures the wild, all-in attitude that skid pilots bring to MEU deployments — where the flying is demanding, the operations are real, and the intensity never lets up.
