HMH-463 "Pegasus" deployed to Vietnam operating the CH-53A Sea Stallion, providing the heavy-lift capability that was critical in the rugged terrain of I Corps and throughout the Republic of Vietnam. The CH-53 was the only Marine helicopter capable of recovering downed aircraft, resupplying remote hilltop outposts, and extracting heavy equipment from fire bases under siege. During the Vietnam War, HMH-463 crews flew into some of the most dangerous landing zones in Marine Corps history, often under intense anti-aircraft fire while hauling loads that pushed the Sea Stallion to its limits.
