Detachment Bravo — HMH-462 in the jungles of Vietnam.
HMH-462's Detachment B deployed to Vietnam during the conflict, operating CH-53A Sea Stallions in the heavy-lift role that was desperately needed in the rugged terrain of Southeast Asia. The CH-53 was the only Marine helicopter capable of recovering downed aircraft and moving heavy equipment into remote fire bases that were inaccessible by road. Det B operated in some of the most demanding conditions in Marine aviation history — monsoon weather, mountainous terrain, and constant enemy fire — providing the heavy-lift backbone that kept Marine ground forces supplied and mobile.
