The Gunrunners — running guns in Cobras since the squadron's attack helicopter days.

HMA-269 "Gunrunners" was a Marine attack helicopter squadron that operated AH-1 Cobras in the dedicated attack role before the Marine Corps consolidated attack and utility helicopter missions under the HMLA designation. The Gunrunners flew Cobra gunships in support of Marine ground forces, providing anti-armor, close air support, and armed escort. Based at MCAS Camp Pendleton under MAG-39, HMA-269 was part of the West Coast's Marine attack helicopter capability during a pivotal era in rotary-wing warfare. The squadron redesignated as HMLA-269 when UH-1N Twin Hueys were integrated into the unit, and today continues to serve as one of the premier light attack helicopter squadrons in the Corps. This patch preserves the Gunrunners' identity from their HMA attack helicopter era.
