Officially Licensed US Navy All Weather Training Unit AWTU-2 Patch — All Weather Training Unit Two Embroidered Patch
Flying through anything Mother Nature throws at them.
All Weather Training Unit 2 (AWTU-2) was a United States Navy training unit dedicated to preparing aircrews for the most challenging flight conditions: instrument meteorological conditions, severe weather, and the zero-visibility environments that test the limits of both aircraft and aviators. AWTU-2 trained helicopter and fixed-wing crews to safely operate in weather conditions that would ground most civilian aircraft.
All-weather capability is essential for military aviation, where missions don't stop because of rain, fog, snow, or darkness. AWTU-2's instructors were experts in instrument flying, weather system analysis, and the tactics and techniques required to safely navigate through hazardous weather while maintaining mission effectiveness. The unit trained crews across multiple aircraft types in the art of flying solely by reference to instruments, conducting approaches through low ceilings and reduced visibility, and managing the unique hazards of icing, turbulence, and thunderstorm operations. Graduates returned to their fleet squadrons with the confidence and skills to fly missions in any weather conditions.
This patch represents a specialized training unit that made all-weather warriors.
Perfect For: AWTU-2 alumni, all-weather qualified naval aviators, instrument flight training specialists, and Navy training unit collectors.
