MCRD San Diego is where West Coast Marines are made — earning their Eagle, Globe, and Anchor under the California sun. This officially licensed patch represents the Drill Instructors, staff, and recruits of the West Coast's Marine making machine.

Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, located in San Diego, California, has been training Marines since 1921. Every Marine recruited west of the Mississippi River begins their transformation at MCRD San Diego, known informally as the home of the "Hollywood Marines." Despite the nickname, there's nothing glamorous about the grueling 13-week training program that produces Marines who are ready to earn their place in the Corps.
