NAF Atsugi served as the home base for forward-deployed carrier air wing squadrons in Japan, where Navy aviators lived and trained between Pacific deployments. This officially licensed patch represents the sailors who served at this key Pacific installation.
Naval Air Facility Atsugi, located near Yamato City in Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan, served as the primary shore base for the carrier air wing assigned to the forward-deployed aircraft carrier in Japan. The facility hosted fighter, attack, electronic warfare, airborne early warning, and helicopter squadrons that deployed aboard carriers operating in the Western Pacific and Indian Ocean. NAF Atsugi was central to the Navy's forward presence strategy in the Pacific.
