MALS-11 "Devilfish" is Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron 11 — and it traces its lineage all the way back to December 1, 1921, making it the oldest aviation unit in the entire Marine Corps. Based at MCAS Miramar, California, MALS-11 provides intermediate-level maintenance, aviation supply, and ordnance support to MAG-11's fixed-wing squadrons under the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing. From the Solomon Islands in WWII to Da Nang in Vietnam (where they supported 12 different aircraft types, including Task Force 77 birds off Yankee Station), to Desert Storm, OEF, and OIF, the Devilfish have been the logistics backbone that keeps Marine aviation lethal. They've earned the Secretary of Defense Award for Maintenance Excellence and the Marion Carl Award — because when you've been doing it for over a century, you tend to be the best at it. This leather patch puts their iconic octopus insignia on premium material.
