Officially Licensed US Navy LSO Landing Safety Officer Mini Patch - U.S. Navy Landing Signal Officer (LSO) role insignia, officially licensed embroidered mini patch.

Paddles on the platform, eyes on the glideslope, and the final word on every carrier recovery.

The Landing Signal Officer, known throughout naval aviation as Paddles, is a qualified Navy or Marine Corps aviator whose primary duty is to monitor and direct the final approach and recovery of fixed-wing aircraft aboard U.S. aircraft carriers. The role traces its origins to the earliest days of carrier aviation in the 1920s aboard USS Langley, where experienced pilots first used improvised hand signals to guide fellow aviators safely to the deck. Today, LSOs work alongside the optical landing system, communicating glide path, angle of attack, lineup, and power corrections to approaching pilots via radio handset, and holding wave-off authority to abort any approach that falls outside safe parameters. Prospective LSOs are selected from junior pilots in carrier aviation squadrons, complete field qualification for Field Carrier Landing Practice, and then attend the LSO School at NAS Oceana, Virginia, for formal ground training. They also carry direct responsibility for training pilots in shipboard approach techniques, carrier landing procedures, and flight deck operations, making the LSO community one of the most technically demanding and safety-critical specialties in all of naval aviation. This mini patch captures that identity in a compact, densely embroidered format built for display boards, flight bags, cruise books, and shadow boxes.

Perfect For: Navy carrier aviators, LSO school graduates, tailhook community veterans, carrier air wing alumni, naval aviation historians, flight deck crew supporters, squadron reunion collections, shadow box builds, patch panel displays, and anyone who wants a precisely researched piece tied to one of the most demanding roles on the flight deck.

Paddles heritage, stitched small and worn with the authority of every safe recovery.
