Sea Control Squadron 30 (VS-30), the "Diamond Cutters," was a U.S. Navy anti-submarine warfare squadron that operated the S-3 Viking and its predecessors from aircraft carriers and shore bases along the East Coast. Established during the Cold War era, VS-30 was part of the Navy's carrier-based ASW capability — hunting Soviet submarines across the Atlantic, Mediterranean, and North Sea. The S-3 Viking crews of VS-30 conducted surface surveillance, anti-submarine patrols, over-the-horizon targeting, and aerial refueling from the flight decks of Atlantic Fleet carriers. This patch reproduces the classic 1960s-era squadron design, preserving the Diamond Cutters' legacy for collectors and veterans alike. VS-30 was disestablished as part of the drawdown of the S-3 Viking community, but the squadron's contribution to Cold War naval aviation remains an important chapter in carrier air wing history.
