Attack Squadron 15 (VA-15), the "Valions" (a combination of "Valor" and "Lions"), was a U.S. Navy carrier-based attack squadron with a distinguished history spanning multiple conflicts. Originally established during World War II, VA-15 operated a succession of attack aircraft including the AD Skyraider, A-4 Skyhawk, and A-7 Corsair II. The Lions deployed aboard multiple aircraft carriers and flew combat missions in the Korean War and Vietnam War, delivering close air support, interdiction, and armed reconnaissance. VA-15 was based at NAS Cecil Field, Florida, and deployed with Atlantic Fleet carrier air wings. The squadron was disestablished as part of the post-Cold War reorganization of naval aviation, but the Valions' legacy endures among attack aviation veterans and naval aviation historians.
