Patrol Squadron 16 (VP-16), the "War Eagles," is a U.S. Navy maritime patrol squadron with a combat lineage stretching back to 1946. Originally established as VP-MS-6 and later redesignated VP-16, the War Eagles have operated the PBY Catalina, P2V Neptune, P-3B and P-3C Orion, and transitioned to the Boeing P-8A Poseidon — the Navy's current frontline maritime patrol and reconnaissance aircraft. Based at NAS Jacksonville, Florida, VP-16 conducts anti-submarine warfare, anti-surface warfare, intelligence surveillance and reconnaissance, and armed overwatch missions across every theater. The War Eagles have deployed to the Western Pacific, Mediterranean, Persian Gulf, and Horn of Africa, earning multiple Battle Efficiency Awards and safety commendations.
