Carrier Airborne Early Warning Squadron 12 (VAW-12) Bats was a U.S. Navy squadron that operated in the carrier airborne early warning role, flying aircraft like the E-1 Tracer and E-2 Hawkeye to provide fleet air defense coordination and airborne early warning coverage for carrier battle groups. VAW-12 served during some of the Cold War's most critical decades, ensuring that carrier strike groups had the radar coverage and command-and-control capability needed to detect and respond to threats across vast stretches of ocean.
